I need information about getting a fra driving under suspension.?

Ok so i got caught without insurance and have to carry an sr22 which i have for over a year. I got pulled over today and got a fra driving under suspension when i had no idea my license was even suspended. I never received a letter from the bmv asking for my insurance or anything so I dont understand how they suspended my license when Ive had the insurance, the cop said it was because i cancelled my insurance which i did because i got a new insurance company. So im wondering if i show the bmv the proof that i have had this insurance if they will reinstate my license and if there is a fee. And if they do so will I still be charged with d.u.s even though i had the insurance all along. Is there a way for the bmv to revoke that suspension so I dont get a dus?
